Camp Counselor

As an Adult Summer Camp Counselor at Unplugged Adventures, you will serve as a key leader in providing an inclusive, nature-rich, screen-free experience for campers. You will collaborate with fellow staff, lead and support daily planned activities (nature hikes, art projects, games, campfires, etc.), and help ensure a safe, fun, growth-oriented environment.

Camper needs vary based on the camp, as each is specifically designed to the needs of our campers. Please note which camps you are interested in on your application.

Adult Counselors share a cabin with their campers, staying in a private room with a door. Cabins and the dining/event hall are fully air-conditioned with full indoor plumbing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a positive, caring role-model and mentor for campers, supporting their personal growth, independence, and friendships.

  • Lead or co-lead daily program activities (e.g., hiking trails, GaGa ball pit, nature exploration, art/craft, campfire gatherings) in line with Unplugged Adventures mission to “step away from screens and step into nature.”

  • Foster an inclusive environment: support campers with diverse and individual needs

  • Supervise groups during camper daily routine: meals, cabins/campsites, transitions, free time, and scheduled program segments.

  • Collaborate with fellow counselors and camp leadership on scheduling, behavior management, camper wellbeing, and safety protocols.

  • Assist with set-up, clean-up, maintenance of activity areas and cabins/common spaces.

  • Participate fully in online pre-camp training, and any staff meetings.

  • Monitor camper health, safety, and emotional wellbeing; report concerns to the director or health staff.

  • Help cultivate the camp culture: encourage participation, model respect, inclusivity, fun, and growth.

  • Carry a walkie talkie and be available to respond to situations as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Previous experience working with children (camp, tutoring, after-school program, etc.) strongly preferred.

  • Enthusiastic about the outdoors, nature-based experiences, and working as part of a team.

  • Comfortable with a camp environment: active physical role, outdoor settings (hiking, nature trails) including 7am mornings, lights out by 10 pm.

  • Ability to build rapport with campers and staff.

  • Must be reliable, flexible, creative, and adaptable.

  • Commitment to our mission of inclusive, screen-free, nature-connected camp experiences.

  • Willingness to live the “camp life” (outdoor setting, active days, community-oriented).

  • Knowledge of camp games and songs is a big plus. 

  • Must pass a background check.
