Kitchen Cook
Unplugged Adventures Camp is seeking a dependable and enthusiastic Kitchen Cook to join our summer camp team. Must be over 18 to apply. This role is responsible for preparing, serving, and cleaning up breakfast and lunch for campers and staff during scheduled camp weeks. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a camp environment and takes pride in providing nutritious, well-prepared meals. All meals will be pre-planned, and supplies purchased. Our camp kitchen staff may also delegate responsibilities to a rotating team of volunteers to serve each meal. Sunday, June 7 and Sunday, July 12 responsibilities include setting up the kitchen for the camp and organizing the bulk food delivery. Fridays’ tasks include closing down the kitchen for the weekend. On Friday, June 26 and Friday, July 24 tasks include helping to clear out the food completely.​

June 7-12 - Camp Nova (co-ed ages 10-16) This camp is specifically for neurodiverse children.

June 15-19 - Camp Firefly (co-ed ages 12 and under) sponsored by NWF Guardian Ad Litem Foundation.

June 22-26 - Camp Compass (co-ed ages 13+) sponsored by NWF Guardian Ad Litem Foundation.

July 13-17 - Camp Terra Fauna (co-ed 6th-8th graders) is a high-level camp experience with an emphasis on various science topics including Astronomy, Forestry, and Marine Biology.

July 20-24 - Camp Wildflower (rising 3rd-5th grade girls), **All female staff

Location: Camp Longleaf, 4645 FL–20, Freeport, FL 32439. This camp is located next to the E.O. Wilson Biophilia Center property.

Compensation: Paid position, salary depending on experience.
Responsibilities

Prepare breakfast and lunch according to planned menus

Precook certain foods as required

Ensure meals are ready and served on schedule. Breakfast at 8:00, lunch at 12:00. Some lunches may be pre-packed for field trips. No meal will be served on field trip days.

Follow proper food safety and sanitation practices

Clean and sanitize kitchen, equipment, dishes, and food prep areas after meals.

Assist with basic meal planning and food preparation as needed

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment

Work cooperatively with camp leadership and staff, and volunteers
Schedule Details

Camp operates during five non-consecutive weeks in the summer

Work hours are focused on early morning through early afternoon (breakfast and lunch service)

Requirements

Ability to prepare meals for groups in a timely manner

Must be able to pass a background check

Willingness to work early mornings

Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated

Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light lifting

Able to delegate tasks clearly to volunteers

Prior food service experience preferred (camp or institutional experience a plus)

Key Responsibilities

Serve two meals a day to upwards of 60 children and adults

Assist with set-up, clean-up, maintenance of the kitchen/common dining spaces

Participate fully in any staff meetings

Carry a walkie talkie and be available to respond to situations as needed

Serve as a positive, caring role-model and mentor for campers
Qualifications
-
Must have a Serv-Safe Food Service Certificate before the start of camp

Must be at least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Previous experience working in food service is preferred

Must be reliable, flexible, and adaptable
